Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad (KVRS) – search & rescue
All-volunteer nonprofit search, rescue and recovery team serving Ketchikan since 1950, working with Alaska State Troopers, Coast Guard, TEMSCO Helicopters, local fire departments and the Forest Service; services are free. For an emergency call 911 (troopers/dispatch call out KVRS). Non-emergency office/info: 907-225-9010 (contact@ketchikanrescue.org), www.ketchikanrescue.org. KVRS lends free SPOT satellite messengers for backcountry trips, posts trip-safety resources, hosts a public NOLS Wilderness First Aid course each spring ($400), and fundraises with blueberry crepes at the Blueberry Festival and a pumpkin patch at City Park in October.
