The Organized Village of Saxman (OVS) is the federally recognized tribe for Saxman, governed by the elected Saxman IRA Tribal Council; many services for tribal citizens are delivered through Tlingit & Haida, plus OVS's own programs such as the senior center, the VPSO (village public safety officer) and vehicle removal. Tribal office: 2706 South Tongass Highway, 907-247-2502, info@saxmantribe.org, open 9am-5pm weekdays. The Saxman IRA Council election is held each April at the tribal office (voters are adult members of the Village); candidates file a Declaration of Candidacy about a week before, and absentee ballots are available from the office in the days before the election - call 907-247-2502 for the current year's dates.
