National Weather Service — Kotzebue Forecast & River/Sea Ice Conditions
The National Weather Service publishes Kotzebue-area weather forecasts and, through the Alaska-Pacific River Forecast Center, spring ice-breakup outlooks and flood watches/warnings for river and lake ice statewide, including aerial reconnaissance of ice jam risk. Residents who travel by snowmachine or boat on the Kobuk/Noatak rivers or Kotzebue Sound should check current NWS forecasts and breakup updates before traveling, especially in spring and fall shoulder seasons. Residents can also join the NWS River Watch Program to help report local ice/water conditions.
