Kawerak welfare assistance
Kawerak Welfare Assistance covers General Assistance, Emergency Assistance and Burial Assistance. For help with an application, or to ask whether you are financially eligible, call 907-443-4370. Nome Eskimo Community members, and members of tribes from outside the Bering Strait Region who live in Nome, apply through Nome Eskimo Community (907-443-2246) instead; tribal members living in Unalakleet apply through the Unalakleet IRA office.
Who it’s for
From Kawerak's page: a member of a federally recognized tribe, living in the Bering Strait Region, income eligible and without enough resources to meet essential needs. Nome Eskimo Community members and out-of-region tribal members living in Nome apply through NEC; Unalakleet residents apply through the Unalakleet IRA.
