November is American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month! This month, we celebrate the cultures, traditions, languages, and histories of Alaska Native peoples, especially the Iñupiat communities of the North Slope that ASTAC is honored to serve. For generations, Alaska Native communities have passed down their traditions, languages, and knowledge, keeping their cultures strong and connected. As a cooperative that has served the North Slope for decades, ASTAC is proud to celebrate the people, history, and traditions that make our communities so special.

Hi everyone! My name is Shemah Yisrael, and I’m excited to be interning with ASTAC through Iḷisaġvik College. As an Allied Health student, I’m excited to step outside my comfort zone, meet new people, and see what I can learn from this amazing opportunity. I’m looking forward to gaining firsthand experience and learning more about the professional work world. A little about me: I’m a mom of one and in my free time I love to cook new recipes and spend time exploring Alaska and trying new things. I’m grateful to be part of this program, and excited to see where this opportunity takes me.

This Cybersecurity Awareness Month, stay two steps ahead of scammers! As online scams become more difficult to spot, a few simple habits can make all the difference in keeping your personal information safe. Before clicking a link, opening an attachment, or responding to an unexpected message, take a moment to double check the source. Even messages that look legitimate could be attempts to steal your personal information. Keep an eye out for unfamiliar senders, suspicious links, misspellings, urgent requests or requests for personal information. Remember, when in doubt, check before you click!
