Every November, the United States observes National Native American Heritage Month. It's a time to recognize the histories, cultures, resilience, and contributions of American Indian and Alaska Native communities across the country. The Iñupiat have lived and thrived in Northwest Alaska for thousands of years. Today, our region is home to 11 federally recognized tribes. The knowledge carried through generations still shapes how we work, share, and care for one another. Throughout November, we'll share interesting facts about Iñupiaq culture and our region, from our language and traditional values to the land and seasons that have shaped our way of life. What's one thing about our culture or region you think everyone should know? Tell us in the comments. Your answer might inspire a future post.

Heating help is available through the State of Alaska Heating Assistance Program — and we want to share information on how you can apply. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) can help cover your winter heating costs. Here's what to know: Applications are open Oct. 1 through April 30. Processing takes up to 45 days — applying early keeps your heat covered when you need it most. If awarded, grants go straight to your fuel or electric vendor, so the help applies to your account right away. Stop by your local NANA office and our staff can help you scan and send everything in. For more information, visit: https://bit.ly/LIHEAPAK
